Why use Merlin’s Magic compost?
Merlin’s magic compost is made at our facility in Nantycaws from green waste sourced locally. It does not have the carbon footprint attached to it that composts shipped across the country have, and it is a prime example of “closed loop” recycling
Does the compost contain Food waste?
No. All Merlin’s magic compost is comprised of green waste only and is certified for organic activities.
Is Merlin’s magic compost PAS100?
Yes. Merlin’s magic compost is audited and tested by the Organic farmers and growers association to achieve this accreditation.
What is the difference between the 2 grades of compost?
Merlin’s magic compost is screened to 2 different sizes, 10mm that is generally supplied in 40l bags and is a good general-purpose compost suitable for pots and young plants. 25mm screened compost contains everything that 10mm has but with the addition of slightly larger woody material which aids drainage, perfect for beds, mulching and larger projects.
What does it cost?
Bagged compost is priced at £2.50 per bag while loose/bulk loads cost £35 per tonne for 10mm organic and £20 per tonne for the 25mm option.
Does it contain peat?
No peat was harmed in the making of Merlin’s magic compost.
Do we add any chemicals to the compost?
No. we do not add anything to our compost to raise or alter nutrient levels,
It comes from the tip, is it safe to use?
Yes, the compost is produced in a self-contained facility at Nantycaws and as a result does not come into contact with household waste or any thing else for that matter, CWM is audited against that fact.
Hiring periods
We recommend that a Skip/ Rolonoff is hired for a maximum of 14 days, however, we understand that circumstances sometimes make this impossible. If you believe you will need the skip for a longer period please make the staff aware upon ordering.
Unsafe to move
Skips / Rolonoffs must be level loaded this means the waste does not pass above side levels, if on collection the Skip / Rolonoff is loaded higher than the sides and the driver deems it unsafe to lift the Skip / Rolonoff will be left at site and the customer asked to remove some waste and re book in collection. This will incur a wasted journey charge to the customer.
When filling your skip, start with any heavy bulky items first, laying them flat and working up from the bottom of the skip, saving any small, loose items for the end. Bulky items tend to take up a lot of void spaces, consider safely breaking down these items and other waste such as cardboard boxes to maximise the space in your skip.
What cannot go in the skip?
Our skips are used for non-hazardous waste, listed below are a number of common waste streams that are not accepted in your skip.
Plasterboard
Tyres
Fluorescent tubes
Gas bottles & cylinders
Asbestos
Batteries
Clinical Waste, COSHH
Paint Tins, Petrol, Diesel Oils
Fridges Freezers & Tvs
Why can these not go into skips?
Plasterboard
In 2009 a change to regulations dictating how we dispose of plasterboard was implemented, this means the disposal of gypsum which is the main raw material of plasterboard could no longer be mixed with other waste materials.
Should you require to get rid of plasterboard, depending on quantities you may need to order a skip only for plasterboard, should you only have a small quantity and are having a skip for other waste materials please contact the office as we may be able to offer a bagged collection at the same time as your skip is collected.
Asbestos
Asbestos is classed as hazardous waste falling under The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Due to the risk associated to asbestos, it requires specialist handling and disposal. If you want to dispose of asbestos please seek guidance from an asbestos specialist. CWM’s household recycling centres can accept asbestos, charges may apply.
Fluorescent Tubes
Due to the small amount of mercury contained within Flo-Tubes (Fluorescent Tubes) it is important to separate these from other general items. These cannot be placed into skips and need to be disposed of correctly. CWM’s household recycling centres can accept these, charges may apply.
Fridges, Freezers & TVs
The WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) was set up to better manage electrical waste within the waste industry. Fridges, Freezers and Tv’s all contain a gas. These cannot be placed in skips. CWM’s household recycling centres can accept these items in, charges may apply.
Tyres
Tyres cannot be accepted into skips. CWM’s household Recycling centres can accept these, charges may apply.
Batteries
Batteries must never go in a skip. This is because they contain dangerous chemicals and metals, so they must be disposed of separately and responsibly. CWM’s household Recycling centres can accept these, charges may apply.
Gas Bottles and Cylinders
Gas cylinders that still have gas in them are extremely dangerous but there is also a risk from empty cylinders as they will always contain residual amounts.
Clinical Waste & COSHH
Medical and chemical waste is hazardous, particularly if handled without the correct safety equipment. Therefore, you’ll need a specialist company to deal with this type of waste removal.
Consider access before you order your skip
Prior to ordering a skip, consider any access issues such as narrow lanes, small gateways etc. Should you have any access concerns please contact the office to discuss these. Skip lorries with a full skip load can often weigh approximately 18 tonnes, this can place a lot of strain on driveways, lanes, especially when removing a full skip, please bear this in mind when choosing the skips location for loading.

We will aim to have your skip delivered on your preferred delivery date, however in some very rare instances we may not be able to achieve this date. We will notify you of a change to this delivery date via email or phone giving you freedom to change to another preferred date.

This is the process of swapping a skip full of waste for an empty skip, to then be used again, an exchange will be at the same cost as the original skip delivery. This can be done via our booking site cwmskips.co.uk or alternatively you can phone the office.Collection
You can choose your collection date upon ordering, however, should you need this adjusted please contact the office so it can be amended to your referred date.
Road Permits
Where possible, we advise you to have your skip placed on private property, such as on a driveway. If this isn’t possible and you require the skip to be kept on the road/public highway, you will need a Road Permit. If you feel a Road Permit is needed, please include this in your quotation and we will arrange this on your behalf through the local council. A charge of £60.00 Excluding VAT (£72 Including VAT) will be included within your quotation to cover the Road Permit for 1 month.
Road permits can take 3-5 working days to process so please bear this in mind when selecting your preferred delivery date. If your permit cannot be available for your selected delivery date, we will notify you and select a new delivery date.
